Q. Why is my engine having problems
starting?
A. For an engine to fire there are three
main conditions that absolutely must be present:
SPARK, FUEL and OXYGEN. Therefore the absence of any of
these three conditions will result in the engine not firing
up.
Q. Assuming that there is FUEL in my tank and
OXYGEN in the air we breathe, how do I know if there is SPARK
present?
A. The quickest, most inexpensive and accurate way to check
for SPARK activity is to use a spark plug sensor by OK Spark™
because it tells you if the plug is firing inside the
cylinder.
Q. What about taking the sparkplug out of the
engine and starting up the motor to see if spark happens?
A. Sure you can do that but just because the sparkplug
fires outside the engine, doesn't mean it fires inside the
engine. You could be just wasting time. If the engine was
previously running, you'd have to wait until it cooled down
before removing the sparkplug because you could damage the
threads. Aluminum engine heads expand with heat and constant
removal and installation of sparkplugs wears out those threads
over time and you could end up losing a lot of compression
this way. The OK Spark™ spark plug sensor will check for spark
without removing the plugs.
Q. What about voltage? There are sparkplug
testers out there that check for high voltage.
A. High voltage does not guarantee that there will be spark
activity inside the cylinder. They are two different animals
altogether with different characteristics. A high voltage
tester will tell you that the ignition coil is working and
sending high voltage to the sparkplug but it won't tell you
that the sparkplug is firing inside the cylinder. The OK
Spark™ spark plug sensor will indicate the presence of spark
however, by detecting certain characteristics of the spark
activity. This OK Spark™ model also detects high voltage as
well so it's like getting two tools in one.
Q. So if I made sure that there was FUEL and
SPARK (with the Sparkplug SENSOR™) and I still had problems
starting, what now?
A. Now you need to make sure that FUEL is getting into the
cylinder. Just because there's fuel in the tank, doesn't mean
it's getting into the cylinder. There could be a blockage
because if there is fuel and spark together, you will get the
cylinder to fire up. Guaranteed.
At least you know that you have spark activity which means
you have high voltage. You can have high voltage with no spark
present but you can't have spark without the high voltage. The
OK Spark™ brand spark plug sensor will tell you if both
conditions are met and you won't have to waste any more time
trying to figure things out.
Q. Where can I buy an OK Spark™ spark plug
sensor?
A. They will be available soon at your local
Automotive Aftermarket parts retailer.
